Best Products For Dry Skin Types (Foundations, Primers, Blushes, Glows, and Powders)

After realizing most of my followers have dry skin just like me, I figured a complementary blog post fitting with the BEST foundations, primers, and powders for this skin type would be a positive thing in hopes to help those out there suffering! Do be noted all the products I shall be listing below and describing thoroughly are LILLEE APPROVED, in other words pass the tests of no breakouts for my sensitive skin, have a decent or long wearing time, contain a certain dewiness or customizable texture, and overall have a "skin" like appearance with depth in color. By NO MEANS do these products stick to dry patches (I have a ton of my nose), clog one's pores, nor sink into fine lines forming a cakeiness, if you have experienced these terrible attributes with the foundations provided, hear me out first, and realize you might have dry skin, but certain factors such as the PH level, the amount of oils breaking through to the epidermis will effect the final outcome in an opposing manner to mine!

"This clung so bad to one of my dry patches I think I may be returning it" - @Hayleylbeauty

"Pleaseeee share how you deal with peach fuzz!!! Really struggling to find the best way. It clings to my make up and makes my make up look cakey..." - @Hannahhrowan23

"I've tried the NARS Sheer Glow, but for me it doesn't last throughout the school day!" - @Kendel.Fire

I hear you ALL, loud and clear. Going along the lines of what I had mentioned above, the actual product might not be the issue causing these conditions, it might have to do with the type of powder you're using, and the type of primer followed by the motions you take to firmly blend products in! That my love bunnies is WHY I formed a comprehensive fool proof "how to" weaved in with certain brushes, even setting SPRAYS to ensure you all get the best finish possible in an effortless manner...you might even find you'll start using less because of how great the final finish will appear.

Starting from the absolute top, let's talk moisturizer.  Sadly, in my YouTube recording I DID NOT include this as I was extremely eager on getting to the meat of everything, but as a formal blog post we shall add it in! Prior to discovering the BodhiTreeNaturals Coconut Dry Face Cream, my skin was an absolute MESS, crocodile like if I must. For quite some time I thought the Fresh Seaberry Oil was improving my skin, until I realized, "oh, all these clogged pores are from the oil...oil is coming out of my pores, what in the heckkkkkk?!", yeah, wasn't a pretty site having oil bubbles across your nose when your nose is practically the Sahara Desert.  Anyhow, after doing extensive research and figuring out how UNNATURAL the Fresh product was, I knew Etsy was the place to go, and there BodhiTreeNaturals stood. Within exactly a MONTH I noticed my complexion clear up drastically and VISIBLY improve dryness wise! If you're at your wits end, please don't give up too quickly, check out her store by clicking this link: BodhiTreeNaturals Store Front, and scroll through a few products.  MOST are customizable, such as the Dry Face Cream (Apple Cider Vinegar, Lavender is my combination) so it's worth a shot! If you're unsure the owner replies within hours and gives a list of the ingredients with their benefits. For example, lavender is suiting for dry skinned beauties with SENSITIVE skin types, the peppermint on the other hand is meant for a bit more resistant skinned people! Point is, if you have dry skin, MOISTURIZE, but do not over do it either, this'll cause extreme oiliness and getcha' no where.
Nooowww onto the primer! There are two primes in specific I absolutely SWEAR by-- the Marc Jacobs Under Cover Perfecting Coconut Face Primer, and Bobbi Brown's Vitamin Enriched Face Base. When selecting a primer you must ensure it not only has long term benefits but it provides you with a bearable hydration in a lightweight manner! What's the deal with Marc Jacobs Coconut Face Primer? For starters it is formulated WITHOUT parabens, sulfates, or phthalates and it is an enriched base with concentrated coconut extracts, thus forming a natural vitamin-rich BARRIER between your skin, and makeup. This bad boy in specific is one of my favorites because no matter the amount applied the result will still yield silky textures, and youthful looking skin! On the other hand, Bobbi Brown's Vitamin Enriched Face Base is a bit more concentrated vitamin wise and focuses MORE on long term benefits. Formulated with shea butter, carrot extract and vitamins C and E, it instantly hydrates, softens and cushions one's skin while keeping a constantly oil free formula! Stuck in the city and REALLY despise the effects of smog brushing against your dry sensitive skin? Vitamins C and E protect against environmental factors by forming a shield, sorta like the Coconut primer above, just once again, more specified. NEVER go by what the brand advertises a product as! For example, the Bobbi Brown Face Base is aimed towards combination to OILY skin types, but I am tellin' ya' now, one slick of this on already oily skin and someone will be shifting in foundation all night long, no pun intended. If you're unsure which will be best suiting for you, view the ingredients below along with my personal take on the texture, these are expensive and investments, but work!

By this point your primer is set, now what brush should you use? While most dry skinned beauties prefer the Beauty Blender Sponge, I find this product to clog my pores and not give me the same coverage a dense bristled brush does, besides the fact, you will yield LESS coverage with a beauty blender than with a brush as the BB waters down product. The two brushes I recommend is a Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer, on the high end, and an Elf Ultimate Blending Brush, on the low end! While the Morphe M439 is definitely sturdier than the E.L.F. Ultimate Blending Brush, I do understand the economy is poor and not many can afford even $12.00 worth of product, it's the closest dupe I have come upon yet. As a reference point, the Morphe brush features synthetic bristles, thus it is cruelty free, and has the dimensions of 1 3/8" bristles, with a full length of 5 7/8"! While blending you will notice an ample amount of product will disburse out beautifully and if you continue using a series of stipples + tiny downward strokes peach fuzz plus dry patches will be glided RIGHT over.  As far as the Ultimate Blending Brush goes, it is specifically designed for advanced makeup techniques and features a large dome-shaped head with densely (not as dense as the M439) packed bristles that maneuver in and out of crevices and contours of one's face for seamless coverage! The fibers are hand cut, however over time SHED which can pose a problem for some. The main blending motions you should stick with is FIRM stipples, wide circular motions, and tiny pricking motions, please avoid focusing on one area at one time-- all zones, one lump some, blend away! The more you harp on a certain area, the more work you will be exerting forth, if your skin is truly that horrible, start over, exfoliate, and begin again with a different product. If you're a trooper like me, continue bouncing the bristles onto whichever areas contain a dry patch using a dewy foundation, these types of products are typically thick in formula thus it'll brush the patch down!
Foundation, foundation, foundation, what are we to do with you!? There are approximately 12 foundations I rotate through depending on how bad my skin is that day. For example, today in specific I have a HUGE cut mark from shaving on my upper lip, paired with a decent complexion, so I'd be using a buildable coverage foundation such as Nars's Sheer Glow to cover the cut, but attend to the well off skin texture! Below is a list of my FAVORITE dry skinned foundations paired with why I love em' and the ingredients list.

This is my all time favorite foundation because it blends out beautiful, builds up pigment effortlessly, and lasts for as long as I want it to!

Sheerer in coverage, but the most effective in preventing sun damage, everyone needs at least one high end product stashed in their caddy! In my findings despite the SPF it never shifts and remains put all day long.

Ohh the days when I used this practically with every tutorial, hmmm I wonder why? Could it be the naturally radiant complexion given? Or the ease of blending this offers? You choose.

Highly raved upon by most bloggers, and hated by the general public...sadly! I introduce tooooo yoouuuu the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation.  Offering a natural glowy finish with a ton of coverage, this my friends is a foundation I personally love, give it a chance...or two!

Before you tell me, "this is only for oily skin, UGH", lose the tude'! The Estee Lauder foundation ranks 10th simply because of it's consistency.  The product is rather thick in formula, thus it brushes over redness easily, as well as peach fuzz AND dry patches-- thicker formulas glide on top, while thinner liquids drag behind!

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Tribehenin, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Magnesium Sulfate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Methicone, Laureth-7, Xanthan Gum, Alumina, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Cellulose Gum, Propylene Carbonate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Phenoxyethanol.                    True dry skinned ladies at heart know the struggles blush brings. In some cases, your foundation might look spectacular, then you apply a blush, and it goes downhill from there.  A few of my favorites that I SWEAR by include Nyx's Cream Blush Collection, Mac's Casual Color Collection, and powder blush wise, the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush's as well as Nars's Staple Collection Blush's! Starting with cream blush, the obvious choice though not always available in drugstores and high end brand stores, my all time favorite formula is Nyx's Cream Blush, all shades have the same silky consistency. As explained in my video its best to NEVER freak out when coverage isn't sticking to your skin well, especially if most of the damage is taken on your cheeks! Cream blushes tend to have thicker and more manageable formulas than most foundations, thus it's a smarter idea to work with the blush, then clog your pores, silly goose. The difference between the Nyx Cream Blush and Mac's Casual Cream Color is, the Causal Cream Color is much CREAMIER and lasts longer while Nyx's is a bit tougher to blend and fades quicker.  Who says dry skinned beauties can't wear powdered blushes? Choosing formulas with HIGH pigment that disburse easily is your best bet, otherwise you'll be stuck trying to smooth over a bunch of fuzz and patches. MY picks? the Nars Blush collection, and Tarte's Amazonian Clay Blush collection! Both blushes sheer out beautifully, when applied correctly and obviously last longer than a typical cream blush.  Do be noted my application remains the same between creams and powders-- slight stipples to begin with then full fledged blending! As you stipple the powder across the apples of your cheeks up towards your hairline,  it begins TURNING from a powder to powder-cream since dewy foundations never truly dry down.

Glowing can work against you with dry skin, or work with you to have the most luminous skin yet! A major mistake many make is illuminating those pesky patches WITH glow product, innocently of course. Two fool proof products happen to be the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer and Revlon's Highlighting Stick! Fool proof how you might say? Well, highlighter can detract light AWAY from redness and hydrate dry skin depending on the ingredients. Taking RMS's for example, an all natural Vegan glow, it provides the skin with a natural oily sheen that lasts ALL DAY long and glides right over patches without making them more visible! Products containing higher percentages of pigment such as Nars's Liquid Illuminator, or the High Beam product by Benefit sadly cause a great effect of patchiness because they dry down to powder formulas, Revlon's highlighting stick however is extremely unique and obtains a beautiful sheen to almost anyone's complexion, no matter the texture. As a reminder be aware of click stick pens that are skin toned with reflective pearls, specifically YSL's Touche Eclat! Applying these onto dry patched areas, or areas meant to CONCEAL will make your skin look worn and tired, the opposite of rejuvenated and healthy. Take a look at the photo provided above to get a feel for what I mean illumination wise! Though the second photo is not grand as a dry patch still is visible, hopefully my point gets across as this was shabby work done, not a final tutorial. I used the MJ Genius Gel Foundation with RMS's Living Luminizer, one applied incorrectly, the other correctly!

Powder is probably the biggest factor on WHY many foundations seem cakey, or not as long wearing as you'd like! It goes like this-- Apply too much, cake. Apply too little, shift. Apply the WRONG powder, texture changes. Always be cautious and read the ingredients love bunnies! Below is my favorite setting powders along with two trusty powder foundations and two setting sprays I always can count on.  Please note any products I used in my video to prove matte can be perfect for dry skin will NOT be featured on this blog post simply because it's more of a sub category than overall brand concept! OO lastly, a setting spray is the overall most important thing you could have equipped BECAUSE it can rejuvenate powdery textures and form a hydrating mask over dull complexion.

Loose Setting Powders
NEVER cakes up my foundation nor bunches up the highlight applied, simply coats in a featherlight manner your full face of makeup and sets for hours.

*FORMULATED WITHOUT PARABENS*

This is one of my favorites for when my skin REALLY needs moisture to maintain locked in! According to Sephora, "The formula features vitamin C, squalane, and lecithin to soothe and hydrate, and allows for continuous application without powder build up", simply amazing, isn't it?!

Powder Foundations
Provides AMAZING coverage for on the go touchups and allows you to build-up coverage continuously without causing dryness or caking up!

Perfect for those desiring sheer coatings of color that diffuse unwanted shine, and hydrate throughout the day.

-Red Seaweed, Bio-Lipids, Natural Emulsifiers, and Nylon Powder: A powerful infusion of antioxidants and hydrating agents; nourish the skin while providing a smooth, flawless finish.

Setting Sprays
